Currently Document!X 2012 compiles all the content files in the project for each Build Profile. I would like to be able to select which of the content files to be included per profile and compile a subset of content files depending on the build profile used.
Is there any way to do this?
You can do this using Build Flags - add Build Flags for the different profiles you want to build, add a Build Flag rule to each Build Profile (Filters page) in order to include the relevant Build Flag in each Build Profile (add a second Build Flag rule too to include items and content without any Build Flags). Then just select the Content Files in the Project Explorer and use the Build Flag picker in the Properties window to tag each Content File with the relevant Build Flag(s).

I have a few sets of assemblies each of which is intended for a different platform. What I would like to do is to generate separate documentation for each platform using the Build Flags.
Following your instructions I created “.NET”, “Silverlight”, “Compact Framework”, and “Mono” flags and assigned them to the corresponding content files. Then I modified the Build profiles Filter to accept only items of a corresponding flag OR (another rule) to accept items that do not have any flag. Then I generated HTML documentation for the “Silverlight” profile but the resulting documentation included all assemblies, not only the Silverlight assemblies. It seems that the Second Rule resulted in including all files.
Any hints on what I could be doing wrong?
Apologies for the confusion there. Excluding a Content File will cause the content contained within it to not be used in the documentation but won't exclude the assembly itself. To exclude the assembly itself, remove the flag from the content file, open up the content file editor, right click on the root node in the Content File editor tree (the assembly node) and apply the build flag to that. Let me know if you have any further problems.
