Relationship Diagram (Object Model) Object Order

Just wondering about the automatically generated relationship diagram (of the object model) that appears on the overview page for classes in my API reference. The example you give in the Document!X documentation has the objects in the diagram in alphabetical order by name. The items in mine are not -- see the diagram below for a Combo object (of a combo box control, that can have spin buttons, a drop-down, and several items, etc.). I'm wondering what order those objects appear in and if it is possible to get them to appear in alphabetical order.

 

I'm afraid I'm no expert on relationship diagrams or object models. Any help would be appreciated. Also, is there a web site or other resource that I can go to to understand these diagrams (and object models) in general?

  Can you confirm what type of item you are documenting (e.g. ActiveX component or .NET component).

  The object models generated by Document! X are based on a format used by Microsoft. The relationships represent methods or properties that return an object of a different type - e.g. in your example diagram the Items collection will have a method that returns a ComboItem type. The color coding and shapes are again based on Office and Visio diagrams for familiarity.

  Okay.  We are documenting .NET components. The diagram I posted was of an object in a .NET component.

  The shapes and colors and formatting are okay. I'm just curious about the order or sequence of arrangement (which first, which second, etc.).

  The items are currently ordered in the order they are found in the assembly when it is examined. I have logged a change request to have them ordered alphabetically (this would seem a much more sensible option). I'm pretty confident that this change will be included in the next Document! X update - many thanks for pointing this issue out.

  For the benefit of anyone coming across this post, this feature was implemented in our 2010 version.
